What is Citizenry?
Citizenry is a civic discovery and matchmaking platform that helps people connect with local nonprofits, cultural institutions, and opportunities that reflect who they are and what they value. Think of it as a way to turn your city into a source of purpose and belonging.
Where is Citizenry available?
We’re starting in New York City — because if we can make it here, we can make it anywhere. We plan to expand to other cities beginning in 2026. Want us in your city next? Let us know at hello@citizenry.me.
Is Citizenry political?
Citizenry is strictly nonpartisan. Our mission is civic pride and community engagement, not party politics. We believe in helping people find ways to get involved locally — across neighborhoods, nonprofits, and cultural institutions — without the noise of partisan campaigning.
Is Citizenry a nonprofit?
Yes. Citizenry is incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in New York and is in the process of applying for federal tax-exempt status. While we do not yet have 501(c)(3) recognition, our mission and structure are nonprofit at the core. We’ll share updates as that process moves forward.
Do you include issue-based nonprofits, like immigration or housing organizations?
Yes. Citizenry includes nonprofits across many areas of civic life — from immigration and housing to the environment, education, the arts, and more. What matters is that they are community-serving, nonpartisan, and focused on civic impact. We connect people to service opportunities, cultural experiences, and community work — not political campaigns or partisan advocacy.
How do the matches work?
When you complete our survey, we use your answers — your interests, skills, goals, and neighborhood — along with AI tools and local partnerships to suggest nonprofits and opportunities that might resonate with you. Matches are recommendations, not endorsements, and the final decision to connect or participate is always yours.
Will you share my information with organizations?
We’ll never sell your personal data. If you choose to connect with a nonprofit or institution (say, by signing up for an event or opportunity), we may share only the info needed for them to follow up with you. Otherwise, your details stay with us. See our [Privacy Policy] for the full story.
Does it cost anything to use Citizenry?
Citizenry is free to discover — you can explore organizations, opportunities, and events at no cost. Some events hosted by nonprofits or cultural partners may have their own ticket or membership fees.
Starting in late 2025, we’ll also offer optional Citizenry memberships, corporate sponsorships, and hands-on guidance packages for individuals and organizations that want deeper insights, support, and curated access. These will help sustain Citizenry’s mission while giving members even more ways to engage.
What if I want to suggest an organization?
We’d love that. Email us at hello@citizenry.me and tell us about the nonprofit, cultural institution, or civic group you think should be part of Citizenry.
If you represent an organization that wants to join directly, please visit our [For Organizations] page and complete the form to set up a conversation with our team.
Where can I read the “fine print”?
